Notes About My Work
I work with mixed media, mostly depending on my mood at the time! I'm a big fan of oils but get fed up waiting for them to dry so often resort to acrylics or a bit of both! My work is predominantly abstract expressionism (if you want to pigeon-hole it) with occasional forays into symbolism, fauvism and post-modernistic experimentalism. Alongside paintings, I occasionally also work with charcoal and pastel.
I'm currently experimenting with household emulsion and gloss paints mixed together with acrylics and a variety of other media. The group of paintings I'm currently working on depict the elements - water, fire, earth, air and ether (I love the concept of 'ether' - it represents the material that fills the region of the universe above the terrestrial sphere and was referred to by the ancient Greek and some ancient Indian cultures). The sub-title of this group will be "Colors, Textures and Emotions". The frontpage of this website shows some of the 'Water' paintings for this group.
My style of painting focusses mainly on the emotion of the piece and, although I usually give a description alongside the painting, explaining how it came about and what it means to me, I always hope that other people, when viewing it, will interpret the painting very personally and it may well have a different meaning for every viewer.
I occasionally also have photographic work for sale. My photography tends to be 'as the mood takes me' so be sure to check back periodically.
